Competition Rules and Format:
The 2020 FIH Rules of Hockey (www.fihhockey.org) will govern the Adult competition but will be modified for playing time. The NFHS (www.nfhs.org) will govern the Youth competition. All coaches must complete the team roster/waiver and necessary player information through its EventConnect team dashboard PRIOR to competition. For questions on how to access your team dashboard after you have registered, please contact: email@example.com. Games not started within five minutes of the scheduled start time will be forfeited. The score of all forfeited games shall be 3-0 against the offending team. Rocky Mountain State Games reserves the right to cancel or combine divisions.
For each division, the tournament will be a pool play structured tournament with a 3 game minimum guarantee.
The format will be determined by the organizers after registration closes, based upon the number of teams in each division. All teams in medal contention are required to remain at the venue on the last day of competition in case there is a tie between two or more teams. All teams are also encouraged to remain for the awards ceremony on the last day of competition (approximately 3 pm).
Points for pool play will be awarded as follows: 3 points for a win, 1 point to each team for a tie, and 0 points for a loss. At the end of the pool matches the teams will be ranked in each pool according to the number of points each has accumulated. If the number of teams warrants, crossover games will be scheduled. If there are too few teams for crossovers, medals will be decided solely by pool play results. At the end of the pool matches, if two or more teams have the same number of points for any one place, these teams will be ranked according to their head-to-head match. Should there still remain a tie, then it will be settled by overall goal differential. If there still is a tie, the total goals scored by each team will decide, based upon which team has scored more goals. If still tied, a “shootout” procedure will be played between the two teams to decide the winner. If crossover games are played, the top two teams in each pool will play each other in a semi-final match-up and then a final match-up to determine 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. Depending upon the number of teams in the division and availability of time and field space, there may be classification matches to determine 5th place and below. These are not guaranteed games.
Youth teams must have a minimum of nine field players (or eight field players and a properly-attired goalkeeper) to begin the game. A maximum of 16 players may be on the team roster, no exceptions.
Adult division will be played 7v7 and team rosters are limited to a maximum of 11 players.
Each team must have two different color shirts and socks: one white and one alternate color (team colors must be indicated on the team entry form).
In the 16U/JV/Varsity Girls divisions, goggles, mouth guards and shin guards are mandatory. No jewelry will be permitted. In the Adult Coed division, mouth guards and shin guards are optional but strongly encouraged. Goalkeepers in all divisions must use full protective goalie gear, including a mouth guard and throat protector.
