2018 Olympic Gold Medal Ice Hockey Goalie Nicole Hensley will be Celebrity Speaker at the Salute to the U.S. Olympic Family Luncheon

Colorado Springs------The breathtaking gold medal triumph by the 2018 USA Women's Ice Hockey Team remains one of the most riveting moments from the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

The Colorado Springs Sports Corporation is proud to announce that Team USA goaltender Nicole Hensley will be the celebrity speaker at its eighth annual Salute to the U.S. Olympic Family Luncheon on Thursday, April 12, at the DoubleTree by Hilton.

Hensley, a native of Lakewood, Colorado, got Team USA off and rolling when she shut out The Olympic Athletes From Russia, 5-0, in the opening game at the Kwandong Hockey Centre, turning away all 13 shots she faced.

In the process, she went on to win a gold medal when Team USA came back from a one goal deficit in the final seven minutes to tie the game and then went on to defeat nemesis Canada, 3-2, the four-time defending Olympic champions, in dramatic fashion in a final overtime shootout.

Hensley has added her gold medal to the two she earned at the IIHF World Championships in 2016 and 2017. She went 3-0-0 with a pair of shutouts in the 2017 tourney for Team USA.

She prepped at Green Mountain High School in Lakewood, winning the 2012 state title, then played for Lindenwood (MO) University, where she was a four-time all-CHA selection and the NCAA all-time leader in saves with 4,094 for the Lady Lions.

Hensley is a three-time winner of the Colorado Sportswoman of the Year Award and has been inducted into the Colorado Sportswomen of the Year Hall of Fame.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicole Hensley at our Olympic luncheon as our featured speaker," said Chairman of the Board of the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, Dave Palenchar. "And, we are grateful to USA Hockey for making her appearance possible."

Hensley, the first Colorado Women's Olympic hockey player, is the third Olympic Games gold medalist to be the featured speaker at the luncheon, joining Olympic Hall of Famers Bonnie Blair (speedskating) in 2011 and basketball great Teresa Edwards in 2012.
