2019 SPORTS CORP MAJOR EVENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
 

The Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is seeking volunteers to help with upcoming events in the Colorado Springs area. See details below for each event and click the corresponding link to volunteer.

 

Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack

Saturday, June 22 & Sunday, June 23

Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack is a half-mile, side-by-side roll race and trap speed competition featuring hundreds of the fastest, most powerful street cars in the nation. The Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack is the only event in the country where participants have the opportunity to come together at a commercial airport the size and importance of the Colorado Springs Airport while competing for the title of the Mile High Victor
 

Event Operations Volunteer Roles: set-up, admissions/ticket sales, beer garden, parking/staging, etc.

  • Friday, June 21 - 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
  • Saturday, June 22 - 5:00 am - 11:30 am; 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Sunday, June 23 - 5:00 am - 11:30 am; 11:00 am - 5:00 pm; 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm (teardown)

Rocky Mountain State Games

July 19-21 & July 26-28

The Rocky Mountain State Games (RMSG) is Colorado's largest multi-sport festival for athletes of all ages and athletic abilities including those with physical disabilities or visual impairment. More than 10,000 athletes are expected to participate in 35+ sports in the 2019 RMSG event and more than 900 volunteers are needed to successfully run this event. The 2019 Rocky Mountain State Games will be held primarily July 19-21 & 26-28 in Colorado Springs.

Volunteer Roles: Specialized volunteers called "Operations Assistants" are needed to support each sport and provide on-site assistance to Sport Commissioners in addition to serving as the communications link with staff and operations
 
The need for general volunteers varies by sport but may be needed for a variety of tasks including: athlete check-in, information booths, set-up/tear-down, course marshals, scoring, timing, hospitality and many other activities. Below are a few examples of some family-friendly volunteer opportunities as well.
  • Field Hockey (July 19-21): sideline marshals/recover errant balls; family-friendly 
  • Great Inflatable Race: packet pickup (July 19); race support (July 20); family-friendly
  • Track & Field (July 20): athlete check-in, scoring, medals/results, event support; family-friendly
  • Operations Assistant (Sport Specific)work in conjunction with the Sport Commissioner(s) they are assigned to and serve as that person’s assistant
  • Operations Support Team (All Dates): work with The Sports Corp staff, Operations Team, Sport Commissioners and volunteers to prepare, assist and execute all events associated with RMSG

The Broadmoor Pikes Peak Cycling Hill Climb

Saturday, August 10

The Broadmoor Pikes Peak Cycling Hill Climb features a competitive race sanctioned by USA Cycling and a Gran Fondo (fun ride) up the Pikes Peak Highway to the 14,115' summit of Pikes Peak - America's Mountain. 

Volunteers Roles: aid station management, athlete check-in, information booths, set-up/tear-down, course marshals, scoring, timing, hospitality and many other activities.

  • Saturday, August 10 - approx. 3:45 am - 12:00 pm

USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships
Thursday, August 8 - Sunday, August 11

This four day event, hosted at the U.S Air Force Academy, Banning Lewis Ranch and Hanover/South of Colorado Springs, will attract 800 - 1,000 cyclists from across the U.S. competing for national championships in road, time trial and criterium races.

Volunteer Roles: aid station management, athlete check-in, information booths, set-up/teardown, course marshals, scoring, timing, hospitality and many other activities. 

  • Wednesday, August 7 - 3:00 - 6:00 pm
  • Thursday, August 8 - 4:00 am - 3:00 pm
  • Friday, August 9 - 7:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Saturday, August 10 - 4:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Sunday, August 11 - 4:00 am - 7:00 pm

Colorado Springs Labor Day Lift Off

Saturday, August 31 - Monday, September 2

We are pleased to announce that the annual tradition of a Hot Air Balloon Event on Labor Day weekend at Memorial Park here in Colorado Springs will continue for its 43rd year! More than 70 hot air balloons are expected to participate and 150,000+ spectators will come out to participate in balloon glows for the festival's Saturday and Sunday evening schedules. Along with the balloons, a beer garden, food and product vendors and a kids bouncy village will accompany the hot air balloons at Memorial Park over Labor Day weekend.
 

The Colorado Springs Labor Day Lift Off is an event of Hot Apple Productions and the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation.


Volunteer Roles & Shiftsassist with event operations including parking, VIP hospitality, beer garden, etc.

  • Saturday, August 31:
    • Morning shift: approx. 4:30-10:00 am
    • Evening shift: approx. 3:30-10:00 pm
  • Sunday, September 1:
    • Morning shift: approx. 4:30-10:00 am
    • Evening shift: approx. 3:30-10:00 pm
  • Monday, September 2
    • Morning shift: approx. 4:30-10:00 am

Rocky Mountain State Games Figure Skating
September 13-16

This last event of the 2019 Rocky Mountain State Games will take place at the Monument Ice Rinks in Monument, CO on September 13-16

Volunteer Roles: assist with judges and coaches hospitality, ice monitoring, announcing, music playing, registration/athlete check-in, set-up and tear-down, etc.

  • Specific times are TBD but typically, assistance is needed in 4-hour shifts between 6:00 am – 9:00 pm Thursday-Sunday
