What is the Pikes Peak Skybound Marathon?
Pikes Peak Skybound Marathon is a 26.2-mile road race that takes runners up and down Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain. The course follows the paved Pikes Peak Highway, challenging runners with significant elevation gain, high-altitude conditions and a journey toward the 14,115-foot summit before descending back down the mountain.
What is the course?
The Pikes Peak Skybound Marathon features both a full marathon and half marathon on the paved Pikes Peak Highway. The marathon is a 26.2-mile out-and-back course that climbs toward the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain before descending back down the mountain.
The half marathon is an ascent-only 13.1 miles on the Pikes Peak Highway, finishing at the 14,115-ft summit. Every finisher returns to the Start/Festival Area on an event shuttle. Descending on foot and private summit pickup are not permitted.
How difficult is the race?
The Pikes Peak Skybound Marathon is a challenging high-altitude road race with significant elevation gain and sustained climbing. Runners should be prepared for steep grades, changing mountain weather and thinner air as the course climbs Pikes Peak Highway. While the course is fully paved, the elevation and terrain make it considerably more demanding than a traditional road race.
Are there qualification requirements?
Runners must be 18+ to run the 2026 Pikes Peak Skybound Marathon.
Due to the demanding elevation, sustained climbing, and high-altitude conditions, participants should be experienced runners and properly trained for the challenge.
Are there aid stations?
Yes. Aid stations will be located throughout the course and will provide water.
The Pikes Peak Skybound Marathon is a cupless race. All runners are required to carry a minimum of 16 oz of fluid capacity as part of their mandatory race gear. Runners should plan to bring their own hydration bottles or packs to refill at aid stations.
Additional details, including aid station locations and available nutrition, will be announced closer to race day.
