Competition Rules and Format

SET UP

    • Team captains from each team meet at midfield for coin toss. The visiting team calls heads or tails.
    • Coin toss winner chooses offense or defense for game start.
    • Coin toss loser chooses offense or defense for second half.
    • Every possession starts on the 40-yard line.
    • The only possible first down is at the 20-yard line.
    • The offense gets 6 points for a TD.
    • The offense gives up possession if fails to get a first down or TD in 4 downs. If teams get a first down, then it gets 4 downs to score a TD or lose possession.
    • The PAT is from the 5-yard line.
    • A successful PAT is 1 point.

RULES

    • Each game consists of two 15-minute (running clock) halves with a 5-minute half-time break.
    • There is a 30 second play clock beginning when the ball is set.  Failure to get play off in time will result in loss of down or loss of possession if the delayed play is a 4th down.
    • Only passing plays, no running plays.
    • This is a flag, and all offensive players must wear a flag.
    • The game is officiated with normal football rules, i.e., pass interference, defensive holding, unsportsmanlike foul, and delay of game, plus flag specific rules, i.e., flag obstruction.
    • If defense gets an interception the play is dead, there are no runbacks or defensive TDs. The defensive team gets to go on offense.
    • All new possessions start on the 40-yard line.
    • Overtime procedure – coin flip and winner choose offense or defense.  The offense gets one play to score a TD from the 5-yard line.  Score and win, fail to score and the defensive team wins. Only 1 play in OT.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

    • Each team is guaranteed a minimum of three Pool Play matches.
    • Any record ties in the Pool Play for seeding the Playoff Elimination Rounds are broken by point differential. Point differential is the sum of points scored less the sum of points scored against in the Pool Play.
    • If the point differentials are the same, then a coach from the tied teams will flip a coin.
    • No overtime during Pool Play, a tie is a tie.
    • The Playoffs follow a single elimination format: win and advance or lose and eliminated, except teams losing in the semifinals will play in a 3rd/4th place game.
    • Medals for the Rocky Mountain State Game are awarded to teams finishing in the top 3.

Players may only play for a single team
